Dion Neill commenced his career in 1987 as a process server and licensed private investigator. Dion also operated a security business on the Kapiti Coast, the business was sold a few years later to Group 4 Security (now G4S).

Dion was appointed to a senior operations management position at Group 4, he resigned after the acquisition by Armourguard and launched Protective Services as a specialised security and risk management business.

Dion co-founded the original private investigator company, Wellington Investigations Limited and Venue Security (Wellington) Limited. Dion made a strategic business decision to continue his work as a process server and private investigator under The Neill Group (TNG).

In 1996, Dion was contracted to manage the safety and security of a New Zealand sports team in South Africa. A few years later, Dion provided close protection to Bardot from the Australian television series, Popstars and Jamie Oliver, international celebrity chef.

Dion was a senior member of the security team at the Lord of the Rings world premiere and the Hobbit VIP private events. Dion provided the foundation of Protective Services, a respected business operating within the private security and guarding sector.
